Tomorrow on CLF we will be discussing a case study from California whereby a semi-retired couple were trying to decide whether or not sell their property in Los Angeles and move to Fresno. They were in their early fifties when they were going through the process of deciding where to move, as well as how they could become mortgage free and loan payment free.
The case study is for a Brant and Betty from LA. They don’t have to worry about their credit ratings or getting approved for a loan – their only concern was whether or not they would be mortgage free and payment free.
They didn’t want any loan or lease payments at all. No car payments, mortgage payments, student loan payments (for their kids), RV payments, etc. The only thing they wanted to be paying for was their food and basic utilities.
They didn’t want to be choosing their next home based on where their kids were (are) living so that was not taken into the equation (so they said). They were not interested in leaving California, but that was the only decision they had really made. Before they finally decided on Fresno, they were considering moving to the outskirts of Sacramento, Stockton, Bakersfield, Huntington Beach, San Diego, just a to mention a few obvious locations in California – suffice to say they were only set on staying in the Sunshine State.
Over a period of half a decade Brant and Betty were debating and discussing the idea of getting themselves free of their mortgage and loans, but there were so many reasons why they still loved living in LA. They finally made their final decision based on the 2008 stock market correction from the mortgage backed securities fiasco. (luckily Brant and Betty didn’t have a lot of their retirement savings and investments in these mortgage backed securities) They decided that they wanted to be mortgage free just in case the market got any worse leading up to 2010.
Tomorrow’s three posts are a mini-series on this case study and we’ll be posting the first installment between 9 and 10 AM Dec 31, 08. This will be our set of posts before New Years Eve.
From all of us at California Loan Find have a super New Years Eve and we’ll be posting right out of the gate on the 1st.
